Exodus from Southern Baptist Convention

Within the African America Communities across the nation of practicing Christians; there has always been a knowing of exclusion of rights. A feeling that is proven to be as accurate as simple math with the correct answers. America has a Christian life that is inherently biased and self-serving when it comes to race relations. Southern Baptist hold fast to their set ways. Except for a few outliers. The renegades who practice the love of Christ to cause the ground to shake beneath the white supremacist foothold that the evangelical church allows to thrive.
White supremacy was not born in the American Church. It was however, founded with the idea in mind. The Southern Baptist church has its roots deep in the oppression of the African American life. From the use of the slave bible which was created in London in 1807 to bring a watered-down grossly edited version to slaves in the colonies in the Caribbean islands with the main purpose to bring a version of God that was to lord over them at the hands of White-European power. The message was distilled and designed to strengthen the colonial power structures to keep slaves in obedience to a false version of the sacred for their monetary gain.
The saga continues. The church does not want to address the personal needs of the community that makes up 6% of their religious population according to pew research.
Allow me to dissect the SBC.
- It was created to oppose the Baptist church and is push to the abolishing of slavery.
- The founding groups used the bible to declare Gods support of Slavery.
- Anytime race is a social issue they sidestep the issue or side with white supremacy whether overtly or indirectly to allow it to thrive.
The SBC has never truly considered the African American let alone the Christian one. They have consistently found ways to allow the legacy of hatred to carry on. They are so deeply imbedded now in American politics. The current political climate shows their self-serving attitudes. They do not mind talking politics when it comes to a man taking a knee due to a need to protest injustice. Does the name Robert Jefferies come to mind? If it does not, he is a Souther Baptist pastor out of Texas who said he should be shot in the head. As a Christian whether I believe in what someone is doing or not I do not believe this need to protest requires murder. To quote it accurately he said, “He should be shot in the head”, while speaking of Colin Kaepernick This is not the way of Jesus.
I am not saying that all Southern Baptist think this way. However, a vast majority of them do and they support this line of thinking. Do your own research. I implore you to fact check me. I am confident you will find more vial and evil thinking coming of the White SBC camp! They hide behind their own politics and slippery religious talk. My response to that will be the words of Jesus Christ. From Mathew 7:15–20 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
You indeed will know them by the fruit they produce. They only product hatred clothed in hymns and rituals and a surface level of faith that is only designed to bring like-minded individuals into their ranks. It is like magnets that continues to attract bigoted racist mindsets that thrive in their fellowship. It is not always what is said on the pulpit but what they talk about amongst themselves after the service and during the week in their private meetings.
The passage from Matthew 7 magnifies their position and highlights the massive clues as to what they agree on. Its unwavering. Their entire movement was founded on the right to hold Blacks men, women, and children against their will and subject to horrific conditions for thier own social wellbeing. Anyone who supports that prescribe to that legacy and that includes African American Pastors who will take money from them for the founding of their own church. They are only being held up as a show piece and talking point in the event their demons get out. The SBC leadership made it clear they don’t care either way. Whether you stay or if you go if you happen to be Black. If you leave, they will chalk it up to be about your own indifference. The churn your name in the minds of their congregation to make sure when it is all said and done the black exodus was the black leaderships fault and not their imposed sin.
This brings us to the idea of Critical Race Theory. It has extraordinarily strong connotations as to what it means to survive in America while a minority, and it is to be explored more. However, I do think the church is a wonderful place to start since the church has been a huge perpetrator of racial injustice in our nation.
When I speak of how the church pushes issues to the side when it is called out. It is not fiction but observation. Here are the words from the president of a prominent SBC seminary. “Our focus must be on promoting the Gospel rather than having prolonged debates about new ideas that gain cultural traction. … Anything that detracts from that eternal message is counterproductive to our mission of sharing the Gospel with the nations,” Jeff Iorg, the president of Gateway Seminary, wrote.
Many of their powerful pro white Christian voices will continue to lead their flock in the direction they want them to go. This is not the way of Jesus. It is not the way of God. Jesus would not have come if God wanted it differently. So, if SBC and white supremacist Christians from other Christian denomination want to push hatred. Please be aware that it is the social agenda that refuses to back down and not their claim to spread the gospel. Jesus did not come with a message of hatred, a message of looking the other way while someone is in pain, poor or rich. Anyone pushing that message needs to be called out and if you are sitting in a pew of a church that preaches love but only shows hatred you are the problem. They are not doing it the way Christ Prescribed in the Gospel. Don’t take my word for it, it is clear in Hebrews 12:14; “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
The exodus should begin now! Tom Ascol does not care that you are in pain and are trying to put a name on the pain to get the conversation going. He only cares about the unholy agenda that which is dressed up as holy. As a pastor in Cape Coral, Fla., who is head of a group called the Founders Network. He has made his recent mission to pull no punches on the idea of CRT and he is making a push to have his peers rescind any acknowledgement of such ideas. He is quoted saying; “If they can’t let go of that ideology and they’re offended by the seminary presidents, then okay,” he said. “They must leave. I’m not going to wish them ill will. I’m not going to try to talk them into staying.”
Tom Ascol’s response is exactly what Christians should fear if they truly have a quest for salvation. Romans 16:18 clearly states how to watch out for deception. “For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.” In Matthew 24; “Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you.”
Many American whites who prescribe to this line of thinking are being led astray. If they have sincere need to love God and Christ and to live Christ like, they must shed their wolfs fur. The 7 Woes of the Pharisee is a good place to start your journey on dissecting and unpacking your religious practices. It is a measuring stick against the actions you take as a Christian and the leaders you choose to follow. It allows you to seek within yourself first, t questions yourself and then it allows you to see your leaders for who they are; whether they add up and pass with excellence or if you need to speak up and demand better for your faith life.
Christ was crucified because he was a rebel. He was spat on, beaten, because he refused to prescribe to the false practices of the holy men in power. As God and he is God, he knew what was to come and he did it out of love. His sacrifice is why we can call our self-Christians. You can't be a Christian and practice idolatry, the art of looking the other way when someone is in need, power grabs (form of idolatry), racism (a form of hatred for no other reason but physical difference), Economic snobbery, and a host of other lifestyle practices that do not show love in its truest form. See Christ sacrificed himself for pure love. “For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son”, as a redemption. That redemption comes to those the “believe in him and they shall not perish”. To believe in Christ you must believe in all his actions and precepts. If you think another group in pain due to unfair practice is not pain, you have not sat counsel with God in prayer but with the dark one who has led you astray.
